Mycology Innovation Lab
At Woodpeckers Initiative, Since 2016, we have been dedicated to advancing the field of mycology through our citizen science mycology innovation lab. Our primary focus lies in exploring novel fungal species and mycomaterials, with a particular emphasis on the restorative functions of fungi in ecology. At Woodpeckers Initiative, we firmly believe in the power of democratizing science. That’s why we actively involve both professionals and citizen scientists in our research endeavours. We foster a collaborative and inclusive approach to mycology by bridging the gap between experts and enthusiasts. Our innovation lab serves as a hub for cutting-edge research, where scientists, mycologists, and citizen scientists work hand-in-hand to uncover the mysteries of fungal biodiversity and applied research. Through this collaborative effort, we aim to not only highlight the ecological importance of mycology research but also drive disruptive innovation in the field. We are passionate about involving a diverse range of individuals in our mission. By harnessing the collective intelligence and enthusiasm of citizen scientists, we believe we can unlock hidden potential, gain fresh perspectives, and ultimately bring about transformative change in the way mycology is practised today. We are deeply committed to promoting inclusivity and empowering citizen scientists in our mission. By actively involving a diverse range of individuals, we strive to democratize scientific research and challenge the traditional barriers that exist in mycology.

We believe that by tapping into citizen scientists’ collective intelligence and passion, we can unlock new insights, spark innovation, and revolutionize the way mycology research is conducted. Together, we are shaping a future where anyone, regardless of their background or expertise, can contribute to our understanding of fungi and drive meaningful change in ecological restoration. Join us as we break new ground, foster collaboration, and make a lasting impact on the field of mycology through citizen science.
