Woodpeckers Child Protection Mission

We are pleased to announce the launch of Woodpeckers Child Protection Mission, a comprehensive and effective multi-pronged program to train police officers and other stakeholders in Bihar. The mission is led by one of our executive directors, Prakash Kumar who has been working in the field of child protection for over 6 years and has been actively involved in rescuing, rehabilitating, and preventing the exploitation of children and women primarily in the state of Bihar and neighboring Nepal/Bangladesh international border areas.

The primary goal of the Child Protection Mission is to provide police officers, government officials, and other relevant stakeholders with the necessary knowledge, skills, and resources to recognize signs of abuse and exploitation, intervene when necessary, and provide victims with the support they need. The Mission also aims to create a culture of zero-tolerance towards child abuse, exploitation, and other forms of violence in the state of Bihar.

The overall objectives of the Child Protection Mission will be implemented through a series of activities, which include:

  • Training all relevant stakeholders from the government system in the various processes and Acts related to child protection.
  • Developing a network of stakeholders to ensure that all cases of child abuse and exploitation are properly reported and investigated.
  • Sensitizing the public on the issue of child protection and raising awareness about relevant laws and regulations.
  • Establishing support systems and rehabilitating victims of abuse and exploitation through casework.
  • Working with government and non-government organizations and individuals to provide legal aid to victims and their families.
  • Creating an environment in which victims feel safe to report cases of abuse and exploitation.
  • Creation of Bihar-centric pro-bono legal aid cell for Child protection cases.

The mission will focus on its objectives through the following series of activities:

  • Training of police officers on the Indian Penal Code, Juvenile Justice Act 2015, and POCSO Act: This will involve imparting theoretical and practical knowledge to trainee police officers on the various laws related to child protection and their implementation.
  • Education and Awareness Programs: This will involve organizing seminars, workshops, and other interactive activities to educate children and women on their rights, and to sensitize police officers and the public on child protection issues.
  • Rescues and Rehabilitation Programs: This will involve providing immediate assistance to victims of abuse and running rehabilitation and counseling programs for these victims.
  • Prevention Programs: This will involve running campaigns and other initiatives to raise awareness and prevent child abuse and exploitation.

We believe that this mission is critical to ensure the safety, protection, and well-being of vulnerable children in the state of Bihar. We need your help to make this mission a success.
